The B51 crew once again donned the beige flightsuits and hit the town to busts some Halloween ghosts. This time, however, the proton packs were 100% complete well before: it was nice to not be sleep deprived or have to worry about drying paint.
An awesome last hurrah for Chris & I, who moved out the day after.

Schocholautte playing "Oh, My Dear" at B51
Schocholautte playing their last song of the night, “Oh, My Dear”, at Chris & my Farewell to B51 party. Beware: the theremin goes a little crazy in the middle (Mikey was improvising with mine)

New York Visitors Center
Local Projects
2008
The New York Visitors’ Center offers tourists and residents alike a place to find out what’s going on in the Big Apple, and helps them plan accordingly. Visitors can use multitouch tables to plan their travels, and have the option to print a custom guide or watch a flythrough of their planned journey on the back wall. These renderings are from the planning & proposal stage, but the NYVC has now been completed, and is open for business. Check it out!
The Duel
Ning Hu, Sterling Ely, & Eddie Canaan
2001
Eddie Canaan and myself performing our group’s final world for BVW 2001: The Duel. This world allowed players to use a gesture system to cast spells at eachother. It was originally intended to be two players, but that didn’t pan out. (3 week project, after all) Thus there I am without a headmount uttering those ridiculous lines. Please excuse the cheese.
For this project, I was the modeler, meaning I created all the 3D objects, Eddie was the painter, and Ning was the programmer.

The Quest for the Holy Grail
by Justin Hsu, Sterling Ely, Ted Hung, & Jen Smith
2002
Me (inset) performing our final world for BVW 2002: The Quest for the Holy Grail. Just as Monty Python and the Holy Grail goofed on cinema, we goofed on the technology, all while reliving some favorite scenes from the movie in first person. This one was a blast, and as you can see, the audience loved it.
For this project, I was the painter, meaning I created all the textures for the characters and scenes, Justin was the modeler, and Jen & Ted were the programmers.

National 9/11 Memorial Museum
Thinc with Local Projects
2007 – present
Local Projects and Thinc Design are the exhibit designers for the National September 11th Memorial Museum. Local Projects’ primary role is the interactive media design, however during the proposal process, the flythrough I rendered helped us secure the bid. In the time since, I produced renderings of exhibit concepts for internal discussion and external presentations. (I did not, however, make the image above, as I am not at liberty to show anything I have worked on for this project)
I am no longer working with Local Projects, but they and Thinc continue to design the 9/11 Museum, which is expected to open sometime in 2011.
Black Convention of 1834
Local Projects
2006 – 2007
The second of three media pieces that Local Projects created for the Slavery in the Civil War exhibit at the New York Historical Society, this interactive voting theater situates visitors in the middle of heated debates on the future of the African-American community. (At that time, New York was a newly free state, but still relied heavily on the cotton trade) Continue reading Black Convention of 1834
Times Square Visitors Center
Local Projects & WXY Architecture + Urban Design
2006 – 2008
The Times Square Visitors’ Center has been in on and off development for a few years, and has seen two major design approaches.
What both designs share, however, is the ability to transform the space with media: Lots of screens and architectural features are replaced by a bevy of strategically placed projectors that allow the feel of the entire space to be changed at a moment’s notice.
